New clinic gets point across on exotic travel
A CLINIC has been opened specialising in giving jabs to city tourists travelling beyond traditional destinations.
Medicalternative, in Dean Village, said it launched the service to cater for the increasing number of people going further afield on business trips, gap years and adventure holidays.
Doctors at the surgery, which offers same-day appointments for inoculations and medication, said it was crucial to guard against a range of diseases which have become endemic in certain areas of the world.
Dr Lyndsey Myskow, founder of the practice, said: "Just because an overseas location has sophisticated luxury hotels and resorts, it doesn't mean that visitors are shielded from local diseases.
"It is essential for travellers to check up-to-date advice on the area and make sure they have appropriate inoculations or medication in time for it to take effect.
"As more of the world opens to travellers they are being exposed to virulent conditions, a number of which have been eradicated in this country but which are still prevalent in some locations."
