Naked Britney sex experiment

TROUBLED pop star Britney Spears is to take part in a scientific sex-periment - in the nude, with her pal Paris Hilton. Reports from the US say that the mother of two will join reality star Paris in examining the effect of gravity on the naked body.

Sorry if you have been reading this in the belief that it's true. It is complete fiction as part of a diabolical experiment by Alba to test whether Britney still has online pulling power.

All newspapers monitor traffic to their websites and any story with Britney and sex and/or nudity scores highly among worldwide fans of the fallen princess of pop. The Scotsman once carried a tiny story which happened to mention "Britney" and "sex" and it was up there among the most-viewed stories that day.

Obviously, it wasn't a day when The Scotsman featured an in-depth analysis of the West Lothian Question, as that is one item guaranteed to pip Britney. The start of our detailed look at the vexed political question on Monday had attracted, by 5pm last night, almost 16,300 online hits, with 861 comments. In the interesting political times in which we live, the hardcore fanatics on all sides are always quick to offer their opinions.

Sport attracts big online hits, especially football and rugby, and Princess Diana and the McCanns are very popular. But tomorrow, will the naked Britney sex experiment beat them all? Alba will let you know.

Ryanair rival's dated image

NEVER an airline to shy from controversy, Ryanair will no doubt attract fresh scorn with its 2008 charity calendar, which shows bikini-clad cabin crew in provocative poses while flicking switches in the cockpit, inflating a life jacket and lounging on an aircraft wing. However, the biggest jeers are likely from Irish rival Aer Lingus, which is featured in the guise of an older woman in a shamrock green, one-piece bathing suit, primly pouring tea.

Will he be lucky for some?

ALEX Salmond is a man of many talents, and tomorrow he will be able to add bingo caller to the list. The First Minister will shout out the numbers at Carlton Bingo in Fraserburgh, meet players and discuss the big issues facing the bingo industry.

Fraserburgh is in his Banff and Buchan (Westminster) constituency, not his Gordon (Holyrood) patch, in case of doubt. So, eyes down and - two fat first ministers...88. Scotland independent by two thousand and...17. Etc.

Closing book on 12-year project

MON Dieu! St Andrews University is the first to identify and catalogue every book published in the French language before 1601. The French Vernacular Book project started 12 years ago and was celebrated at a party this week, where the Edinburgh Renaissance Band played 16th-century French music for guests from Paris, London, Dublin and Scotland.
