Nail-bomb teenagers are sentenced to 14 months
TWO teenagers who left a homemade nail bomb in the middle of a dog-walking track "because they wanted to hear a big bang" have been sentenced to 14 months detention.
Gary Stewart, 17, and Paul Ndoro, 18, taped a gas canister and an aerosol can to a glass jar filled with screws, nails and disposable lighters following a drinking binge. They then set the explosive on fire on a busy walkway in Selkirk, where a worried police officer put it out in case it exploded. Experts described their attempt as "crude".
Yesterday at Edinburgh Sheriff Court they were sentenced to 14 months each after a sheriff said only their "ineptitude" had prevented the bomb from causing serious harm.
