Mystery donors' £3m art prize
ANONYMOUS donors have put up a £3 million arts prize for the Capital.
The money is to fund a project of "exceptional merit" to benefit the arts community in the city.
A new venue, gallery or studios could be among projects considered. And the prize money could be used to attract match funding from other sources for the winning scheme.
The Scottish Community Foundation, which will administer the competition, said it had been approached earlier this week by an intermediary on behalf of the anonymous donors.
The foundation has distributed 18m in grants over the past 12 years to charities and community groups, but the Capital art prize will be the biggest one-off award it has dealt with.
Applicants must get backing from the city council for their proposals. The closing date for applications is December 31, 2009.
