My Edinburgh: Award-winning screenwriter, Edinburgh's David Barras is currently working on the new film Electric Man
Age: 40
If you had a time machine, which Edinburgh concert would you relive?
The Flaming Lips at the Usher Hall on the Yoshimi tour. Unbridled joy in gig form.
What is your favourite Edinburgh theatre?
I'm going to cheat and say Filmhouse.
Who would you choose to headline Edinburgh's Hogmanay?
From the here and now – Arcade Fire. From the past, Pink Floyd.
Name three regular haunts in the Capital that you could not live without.
Filmhouse, Caf St Honore and home.
Separated at birth: Edinburgh and . . . ?
Cities of hills.
Who or what in Edinburgh inspires you?
The architecture and the village feel of the place.
Do you think the city is a friendly place to live?
For the most part.
Car, bike or bus - how do you get around town?
Bike as preference but car if I'm carrying film equipment.
Come August do you love the Festival or loathe it?
Love it. Why would you want to be anywhere else in the world?
If you couldn't be in Edinburgh, where else would you rather be?
The Highlands or one of our many amazing islands.
Princes Street or George Street?
Princes Street. It's got the view.
If we elected our Lord Provost, who would you like in the position?
Anyone who could cut through the bureaucracy of local office and get things done.
What's the biggest change you've seen in the city?
The level of traffic is now overwhelming. It wasn't like that, even a few years ago.
When away from home what do you most miss about Edinburgh?
The changeable weather.
Could you recommend a restaurant?
Caf St Honore. Features in the works of Ian Rankin and Alexander McCall Smith. Truly one of Edinburgh's best. Find it, try it, love it.
Name one attraction no visitor to the city should miss.
The views from Calton Hill.
Sell Edinburgh to a stranger in no more than ten words.
I'll sell it in someone else's words. Edinburgh is a mad God's dream – Hugh McDiarmid.
