Musicals and Opera Review: Invasian Festival: Soul Traders
INVASIAN FESTIVAL: SOUL TRADERS ** CLUBWEST @ QUINCENTENARY HALL, THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF SURGEONS (VENUE 112)
THIS 1960s-set musical features slick acting, strong singing and infectious choreography from every member of the company, but the enthusiastic performers on show here really deserve to be ploughing their talents into more sophisticated material. Soul Traders is populated by a string of London stereotypes, including salt-of-the-earth barrow boys and a leopard skin-clad tart with a heart, singing trite lyrics about love, salvation and the evils of capitalism.
