Museums puts commitment to boost services on display

MUSEUMS across the east of Scotland have signed a new "concordat" designed to boost services for local residents.

The East of Scotland Museums Partnership secured over 1 million in funding during the last three years by working together on joint funding bids. Members have now renewed that commitment.

The partnership, led by Edinburgh City Council, was formed in 2003 with representatives from Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, the Scottish Borders, Fife, independent and university museums.

Culture Minister Linda Fabiani said: "This partnership is a great example of how local museums can work together to promote a better museums sector."

City culture leader Deidre Brock added: "I am delighted that representatives are renewing their commitment to a partnership that has produced real benefits for the museum sector."

Joanne Orr, chief executive of the Museums Galleries Scotland, said: "The exemplar work has led to legacy proposals within the new concordat that will continue to benefit museums beyond the initial RDCF funding."
