Museum host to sounds and sights of Islam

ISLAMIC-themed stories and music will feature at the Royal Museum in a free family event taking place this weekend.

The main hall of the Chambers Street museum will be transformed with a large Bedouin tent, with woven walls and a decorated ceiling, where storyteller Eman Janbi will reveal Islamic folklore and myth.

Music from the Desert will take place every hour with Iraqi Oud player Ehsan Eman. Ehsan will also be on hand to talk to visitors about the carved stringed instrument and its origins.

Meanwhile, Mariam Zulikar will reveal the secrets of the Carum Board, a customary Arabic game, at Traditional Games.

The events, which run from today until Monday, are in celebration of the Behind the Palace Walls exhibition, which is currently running at the museum.

Catherine Holden of the National Museums of Scotland, said: "We hope to bring the sights and sounds of Saudi Arabia to life."
