Murder that led to a world war

Have your say

I COULD see the point Dani Garavelli (22 June) was trying to make re the background to the First World War but it contained many errors and was quite flippant in places.

She blithely stated that an Austrian was murdered by a Bosnian in Serbia which led to Austria invading Bosnia… sadly all wrong. The Austrian Franz Ferdinand was murdered by a member of the Serb Black Hand movement (Gavrilo Princip) in Sarajevo in Bosnia. Austria-Hungary then made demands of Serbia and did not invade Bosnia.

We all know what followed but let’s at least get our facts straight for our children.
