MTV thank-you award to hit right note in city displays
THE special MTV award made as a "thank-you" to the city for hosting last month’s glittering ceremony is set to go on public display in the Capital.
City council leaders and the Scottish Executive are expected to host talks to decide where the public will be able to see the replica of the gong awarded to the likes of Beyonc, Justin Timberlake and Madonna.
MTV has also been approached over the staging of future events in the Capital and elsewhere, with officials saying they would be delighted to host another extravaganza.
Scotland’s Culture Minister Frank McAveety, who accepted the award yesterday from MTV along with the city’s Lord Provost Lesley Hinds, said he expected the award to go on display around Edinburgh next year.
Councillor Hinds said she hoped it would be able to go on display at places such as the City Chambers and the Ocean Terminal shopping complex, which is located next to the docklands site where the awards were staged in a giant marquee.
MTV executive Simon Guild said he thought the Edinburgh event was the best in the ten-year history of the awards.
He added: "We wanted the tenth show to be a bit different but we couldn’t have imagined how unique and special it would prove to be. It really did reach new heights this year. It was one of the best shows MTV have ever done anywhere in the world."
Mr McAveety added: "We’ve showcased what we have to offer to a global audience and won worldwide admiration for it.
"I think that speaks volumes about everyone involved whose hard work made such a great opportunity for Edinburgh and the rest of Scotland come to life."
