MP takes pot shot at Grand Theft Auto
A MEMBER of Singapore's parliament has questioned whether the country should allow the sale of controversial video game Grand Theft Auto IV, after it was linked to a murder in Thailand.
The game, designed by Edinburgh-based Rockstar North, is currently on sale in Singapore, but MP Christopher de Souza wants to know why the local government is letting young people commit crimes in a virtual world.
And he has asked whether the game should be sold in the country, even with an 18 rating.
A Thai teenager was arrested on suspicion of murdering a taxi driver in August, and after he claimed to have been inspired by GTA, the game was pulled from shelves.
The latest instalment has earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours. In its first day on release the game sold 3.6 million copies and earned more than 150 million.
