MP's dementia call to medics

A LOCAL MSP and former GP is calling for more attention to be given to elderly patients suffering from dementia.

A debate called "People with dementia in Accident and Emergency – recognising their needs" took place in the Scottish Parliament last week.

SNP MSP for Edinburgh and former GP Ian McKee said: "A&E units can be particularly crowded and it's important to ensure not only that members of staff can recognise a dementia sufferer, but that a mental assessment is carried out as efficiently as possible."
