Mother runs marathon in memory of dead sons

THE mother of two boys who were killed in a car crash caused by drink-drive footballer Luke McCormick is to run today's Edinburgh marathon in aid of a road safety charity.

Amanda Peak's sons Arron, ten, and Ben, eight, died when Plymouth goalkeeper McCormick, 25, dozed off and ploughed into their car at 97mph last June. He was jailed for nearly seven and a half years.

Peak, 30, from Manchester, will be running the marathon to raise money for Brake, a national road safety charity. She said: "I wanted to do something in memory of the boys. I chose to run the marathon because Arron had wanted to take part in the Manchester Run this year, so it felt right.

"The training has been tough, but I have been determined to do this not just for my boys but in memory of everyone who has been killed by a drunk or drug driver.

"There is not enough done to highlight this issue and Brake does a fantastic job of educating road users."

The Edinburgh marathon begins at 9am.
