Mother sues after girl hit by rugby ball

THE mother of a primary school girl is suing Edinburgh City Council after her daughter was hit by a ball during a game of "non-contact" rugby.

The East Craigs primary pupil is understood to have been injured after being hit in the neck by a rugby ball.

It has been claimed she needed treatment at the Sick Kids Hospital and also had to wear a neck brace.

It happened last October, although the compensation claim has just been launched. It is understood the mother is worried about what long-lasting impact the injuries may have.

Scottish Rugby, the governing body for the sport, has also been drawn into the matter.

A council spokeswoman confirmed that the girl's mother had started legal proceedings.

She said: "We are aware of an incident that took place at the school in October last year.

"All the appropriate procedures are being followed but with formal proceedings under way, it would not be appropriate to comment."
