More patients on their way to St John's
THE transfer of procedures to St John's Hospital will mean thousands more people attending every year.
NHS Lothian says once the short-stay elective surgical service opens at the Livingston hospital it will receive 3,000 extra patients.
The news should reassure West Lothian health campaigners the health board is committed to improving services.
The project should be completed by late 2010.
NHS Lothian's director of strategic planning and modernisation, Jackie Sansbury, said: "The plans for the unit underline our commitment to building capacity at St John's and providing a wider range of services for patients as locally as possible.
"St John's will deliver a patient-centred service providing holistic patient care for local needs."
