MoonWalk founder blasts switch
THE founder of the MoonWalk has criticised Edinburgh City Council for forcing the successful charity event to relocate away from the Meadows.
The fundraising walk raised a record-breaking 2.7 million last year for breast cancer research, with more than 12,000 bra-clad walkers taking part.
But the start of the fourth event this summer has been moved to Inverleith Park, due to complaints the Meadows has been overused.
Nina Barough, who has been running MoonWalks around the country for ten years, said she was dismayed by the move. She said she had been forced to delay opening entries for three months, and threatened to move the event away from Edinburgh if the new location was unsuccessful.
She said: "The Meadows was ideal because of its central location and we feel a bit hard done by being told to move when we are a charity."
