Money saving tips: The Gadget Show’s best of the gizmos Christmas shopping list
1. Apple iPhone 5 17.3 per cent
Despite only being launched in September, the iPhone 5 already has a huge fan base thanks to its bigger screen, faster processor and new operating system. Apple sold five million units in its first weekend and demand continues to outstrip supply. Its manufacturer recently predicted that Apple may sell 46.5 million handsets in the December quarter.
2. Canon EOS 5D Mk III 10 per cent
The long awaited Mk III finally arrived this year with a £3,000 price tag and a very enthusiastic response from reviewers and photographers alike. Wired magazine scored it at 9/10.
3. Samsung Galaxy S3 7 per cent
Many would say the S3 is the real gadget-lover’s smartphone. Powered by Android, with its open operating system, the S3 offers much more flexibility than the iPhone 5.
4. Kindle Fire 5.7 per cent
There’s no doubt Amazon revolutionised reading with the launch of its Kindle e-reader. The Kindle Fire – Amazon’s number one bestseller – has a vibrant 7” colour touchscreen for browsing, watching, playing and, of course, reading.
5. Nintendo Wii U 5.5 per cent
Nintendo’s eagerly awaited new games console – the Wii U – launches on 30 November, the opening day of Gadget Show Live Christmas. The console has been designed to change the way we play videogames. The Wii U GamePad can be used to control games on TV or as a standalone console if someone wants to use the TV to watch their favourite programme.
6. Microsoft Surface 4.9 per cent
Could this be a real competitor for the Apple iPad? Some critics think so claiming it is more powerful and more affordable. The Kickstand and TouchCover, which incorporates a keyboard, are very nifty features.
7. Mobile 4G 4.7 per cent
Launched in the UK this month by EE and coming to a home near most of us in 2013, 4G is going to make online a lot, lot faster.
8. PlayStation Vita 2.5 per cent
The Vita may not have had the fastest start sales-wise, but Sony is continuing to support the portable console with great games releases.
9. Nexus 7
Another contender for the iPad crown? Physically, Google’s Nexus 7 sits between the iPad and the iPad Mini. Technologically, it runs off the Android operating system, which gadget lovers seem to love more and more.
