Have your say

Contrary to Steuart Campbell’s assertion (Letters, 6 September) an independent Scotland will not have to apply to become a “Commonwealth realm” in order to retain the monarchy. The status quo ante will prevail following the abrogation of article I of the Treaty of Union under which the kingdoms of Scotland and England united to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

The present monarch would be styled Elizabeth II of England and Elizabeth I of Scotland.
