Minister steps into kirk row over ordination of gay clergy

AN ABERDEEN minister has intervened in the row over the ordination of openly gay Kirk ministers, warning that the in-fighting risked losing public "trust and respect" and potentially "destroying it" from within.

In a letter to the church's house magazine, Life and Work, the Rev Markus Auffermann, of Woodside Parish Church, said the row was "only the tip of the iceberg" and the Kirk was struggling to be "taken seriously" by society.

"People in this day and age may wonder what the Kirk has come to - or they may even not wonder any more," he says in the current issue.

"We live in the post-modern 21st century, the Kirk is losing more and more members and money but it seems to have nothing else to do but to tear itself within. The gay issue is only the tip of the iceberg."
