Michael Jackson portrait is no thriller
THE auction of a portrait of Michael Jackson has proved far from thrilling. The EBay.com sale of a fantastical portrait that the King of Pop posed for ended with no bids, according to the organiser.
The owner had hoped to fetch millions for The Book, a 50in by 40in painting by Australian artist Brett-Livingstone Strong of Jackson wearing a red velvet jacket and clutching a journal.
The painting was originally bought by businessman Hiromichi Saeki for 1.4 million in 1990. A toy inventor, Marty Abrams, acquired it in 1992 from Mr Saeki as payment on a debt. Mr Abrams had anticipated it fetching more than $3m in the auction, which had a minimum starting bid of $2.75m.
