Mental health spending falls
CRITICS have hit out at NHS Lothian after spending on mental health services decreased.
Lothians Tory MSP Gavin Brown said despite the fact depression and suicides were rising steadily, the proportion health chiefs in the area spend of their budget on the issue was falling.
Figures have shown 11 per cent of the health board's budget went on mental health in the last year, 1 per cent less than last year.
The credit crunch and recession have sparked an increase in the number of antidepressants prescribed by doctors and those being diagnosed with depression.
