Meeting to give public power over Leith biomass plant

A PUBLIC meeting is to be held to provide information on controversial plans for a biomass power station in Leith.

The meeting will be hosted by Planning Aid for Scotland, with Forth Energy giving information on the content of its application for the site near Albert Dock.

The session is intended as an information meeting, although advice will be given on how to respond to the official Scottish Government consultation.

Leith councillor Gordon Munro said: "I think it's something that's absolutely key if the community are going to be able to articulate their view on this.

"It's going to be the biggest thing to impact Leith for quite a while and it will have, potentially, a lasting impact.

"One of the things that Planning Aid do is translate planning speak into laymans' terms and that's a valuable service given that these are just ordinary citizens dealing with people who design, draw, lay out and present for a living."

Objections so far raised against the plant include health and environmental concerns, fears that it would ruin views in the area, and be too close to homes planned for the dockland area.

The meeting will be at 7pm on February 9 at Drummond Community High School. Places are limited - register at jennifer.wood2@edinburgh.gov.uk or 0131-529 6173.
