Medic takes on role of helping patients suffering chronic pain

THE one in five people across the Lothians who suffer from chronic pain are set to benefit from the appointment of a new senior doctor.

Dr Pete MacKenzie is to oversee the improvement of services for the condition across the country by developing a programme to better the prevention and care of various aches and pains.

Public Health Minister Shona Robison said: "Great progress has been made in caring for the almost one in five Scottish adults who live with chronic pain.

"First and foremost it is now recognised as a condition in its own right – a crucial step forward taken by the Government. But there are still improvements to be made, and the same high standard of care available to some patients must be made available to all."
