BOB Taylor (Letters, 15 July) reminded me of the programme in which Alan Whicker stuck his face close to the camera and declared that he had just been in the biggest house he had ever seen.
Apparently, a very wealthy American from Florida had taken his second wife on honeymoon to Paris. He had promised to buy her whatever she wanted and when they got there, she was fascinated by stories of a young architect who was the talk of the town. She promptly asked her husband to have this young man design her dream home.
She returned in triumph to Florida and handed the blueprints over to a builder. The French architect had drawn these in centimetres but the builder built the house in inches!
