McConnell backs Sick Kids' campaign

A MOTION has been lodged in the Scottish Parliament to welcome the launch of the new Sick Kids hospital campaign.

It has praised not only the aspirations of the New Pyjamas Campaign to raise 15 million for the new facility due to open at Little France in 2012, but the unique ways in which it is trying to target fundraisers and donors.

Submitted by former First Minister Jack McConnell, the motion says of the campaign: "This will supply the hospital with equipment that is at the forefront of paediatric healthcare.

"The campaign will also be used in a variety of ways to support parents and patients (and is] building a social networking site on to the fundraising website so that the campaign will be able to contact an ever increasing number of potential supporters of the new Sick Kids hospital."

It was announced last year that the present Sick Kids building at Sciennes would be sold off and moved to a purpose-built unit beside the ERI which it is believed will cost in excess 100 million.

Shortly after, the campaign was launched to generate cash for equipment above and beyond what would already be provided.
