Mathematics plus movies equals fun
FILMGOERS in the Capital can enjoy a season of movies based around mathematics.
Film3 – maths at the movies was created by the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences and Filmhouse Cinema to showcase three independent films.
The season opened last week and runs until April 3. Each film is based around a mathematical concept, while also providing social commentary.
The season opened with the UK premiere of the animation Flatland the Film, based on the 1889 novel by Edwin A. Abbot.
Tomorrow there will be a screening of Pi, which explores the life and experiences a gifted mathematician who believes that everything in the Universe can be expressed mathematically.
The final film, Cube, is screened on Thursday, April 3. The critically acclaimed thriller investigates the relationships between six strangers who wake up inside a 3D maze of interlocking cubes.
