Mansion for Lockerbie bomber

OPPOSITION politicians in Scotland were angered over reports that the Lockerbie bomber is having a three-storey house built for him in Tripoli, which he visits in a chaffeur-driven Lamborghini.

Construction on the property began six months ago, around a year after Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi was released by justice secretary Kenny MacAskill on the basis of a three months to live.

Tory justice spokesman John Lamont said: "People will be outraged at the Lockerbie bomber's luxurious retirement plans. After serving less than two weeks for every person he murdered, he has been allowed to live in the lap of luxury with those he loves - something he denied his victims."

A Scottish Government spokesman said: "The decision to release al-Megrahi was made by Scotland's justice secretary on compassionate grounds . . . The Scottish Parliament Justice Committee . . . concluded that the decision was taken 'in good faith'."
