Man killed and another badly hurt in two-car crash

A YOUNG man has died and another was in critical condition in hospital yesterday following a two-vehicle car crash on a country road.

The collision between a black Honda Civic and a blue Volkswagen Golf happened on the B993 Kemnay to Monymusk road in Aberdeenshire at around 5:10pm on Saturday.

A 22-year-old man, who was a front-seat passenger in the Honda, died at the scene.

The Honda's driver, a 23-year-old male, was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where his condition was yesterday described as critical.

The Volkswagen's driver, a 51-year-old woman, was also taken to the infirmary. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Grampian Police appealed for information about the crash.

Inspector Scott Mann said: "Tragically, a young man has died as a result of the collision, and another is very seriously injured. My thoughts are with the families of both at this time.

"Clearly, we are at a very early stage with our inquiries, and I cannot comment on the cause of the collision at this time.

"I appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or indeed anyone who may have noticed either of the cars involved on the B993 around 5pm on Saturday, to contact us as soon as possible."

The road was closed for about seven hours following the incident, as collision investigators examined the scene.
