Man killed after driving wrong way along M8

A 65-year-old man died in a four-vehicle crash after driving the wrong way along a motorway, police said today.

Henry McGraith, from Bellshill, Lanarkshire, died at the scene of the crash on the M8 in Glasgow last night.

A 21-year-old woman, who was driving a Hyundai i30, was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with injuries to her pelvis after the collision. Her condition is described as stable.

Two other drivers, who crashed when they swerved to avoid the collision, also received minor injuries on the eastbound section of the M8 in Glasgow.

Rush-hour motorists faced delays this morning after the M8 was partially closed overnight following the accident.

The eastbound carriageway reopened this morning at around 6.45am.

Seven ambulances had been sent to the scene of the crash which took place at around 11.30pm, near junction 15.

It is not known where the man who died joined the eastbound section of the M8.

A report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.
