Man in court over Neil Lennon attack

A man will appear in court today over an alleged assault on former Celtic captain Neil Lennon.

The 43-year-old was arrested yesterday in connection with the alleged attack on the footballer in Glasgow on September 1.

He will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court and is the second person to face charges over the incident.

It happened hours after Lennon was in the Celtic dugout during his club's 4-2 home defeat to Rangers.

Lennon, now a coach at Celtic, was treated for injuries following the incident in the city's Ashton Lane just after midnight.

Another man appeared in court last month accused of involvement in the incident.

David Whitelaw, 46, faced a charge of assault to severe injury on September 25.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody pending further examination.

Northern Irishman Lennon left Celtic as a player last year and joined Nottingham Forest.

He later played for Wycombe Wanderers before returning to Celtic as a first-team coach.
