Man in court on attempted murder charge
A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after armed police surrounded a home in West Lothian.
Residents in Whitburn's Glenmore area watched as the armed officers, riot police and a negotiator descended on the house on Sunday morning.
At one stage, neighbours reported seeing a young child being carried out of the property before a man was escorted out.
A couple who live in the street said: "It was unbelievable. There were police everywhere, it was like something out of a movie. There were about ten police cars and vans. There was definitely a negotiator going back and forth.
"Forensic police officers have been checking out all the gardens in the street ever since."
Another neighbour said: "Anybody who stepped out of their house was being told, quite sternly, to get back inside by police."
Ewan MacKay, 29, from Whitburn, appeared on petition at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday charged with the attempted murder of a female, assault to severe injury and danger of life.
He was remanded in custody after making no plea or declaration, and the case was continued for further examination.
