Man seriously injured in East Kilbride shooting
A MAN was left seriously injured today after being shot as he sat in his car.
He was gunned down close to Hamilton town centre early this morning.
A family member took the 34-year-old victim to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride.
Hospital staff alerted police, telling them that the man appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound.
Police said the incident in Lorne Street, Hamilton, happened at about 7.30am.
The victim is in a stable condition in hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
A police spokesman said: "Inquiries are at an early stage to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident."
Police said they were treating the attack as attempted murder.
They are hunting a suspect who was seen running down Lorne Street towards Linden Lea.
He is tall, stocky and wore a dark-coloured woollen tammy-type hat.
Police have asked any witnesses to come forward.
Det Ch Insp Neil Thomson said: "I would urge anyone who may have seen any person or persons acting suspiciously in Lorne Street after 7am this morning Thursday 13 November 2008 or who may have seen this male running towards Linden Lea to come forward.
"The surrounding area would have been busy with both pedestrians and motorists and we are keen to speak to anyone who may be able to assist us with our enquiry.
"I would like to reassure the residents of Hamilton that all is being done to apprehend the individuals who carried out this attack and that high visibility patrols will be in the area and should anyone wish to speak to them or give them any information this will be treated with confidence."
