Man's fingers sewn on after firework prank
A STREET sweeper who was taken to hospital after a firework prank went badly wrong has endured a 12-hour operation to reattach his fingers.
Peter Jamieson, of Wallyford, is thought to have been attempting to scare colleagues at the Seafield cleansing depot in Edinburgh but he failed to let go of the firework before it exploded. The 44-year-old is recovering at St John's Hospital in Livingston.
His father David Jamieson, 63, said: "I spoke to him for two or three minutes but he sounds awfully dopey because of all the medicines they have given him. He said he feels all right.
"His fingers were left dangling and they have managed to stitch them back on again. Some of the bones in his hand were broken too.
He's going to be getting quite a few operations so I suppose he's going to be in hospital for some time yet."
The incident happened at 1pm on Tuesday. The firework was thought to be one of a number collected that day from the Meadowbank area taken back to the cleansing depot.
