Maggie's to close during makeover
A SUPPORT centre which helps Edinburgh cancer sufferers and their families is to close for a week to be refurbished.
The popular Maggie's Centre at the Western General will have to close its doors between July 26 and August 2.
It will be the first time since its opening 14 years ago that the facility has been extensively worked on.
Bosses said there was no option but to close it during that period.
Head Andrew Anderson said: "All of our centres are designed to high specifications so that they are built to last, but after 14 years and well over 100,000 visits, including 18,000 alone in 2009, the time has come to give our centre some love and attention to look forward to the next 14 years. It is unfortunate that we will have to close during refurbishment."
He added that the charity's website would still offer additional support and that help lines were also available.
