Magazine sacks George Galloway over Julian Assange rape comment
GEORGE Galloway, the outspoken Respect MP, has been sacked from Holyrood Magazine after he sparked protests by suggesting WikiLeaks campaigner Julian Assange had been accused of no more than bad “sexual etiquette”.
The Scots politician was dropped as a columnist from the publication yesterday as the row deepened over his comments about Assange, who is wanted in Sweden over claims he sexually assaulted two women.
“George Galloway is no longer a columnist for Holyrood magazine and the reasons for that, I would have thought, are fairly obvious,” editor Mady Rhodes said in a statement yesterday.
Ms Rhodes said that George Galloway had added colour to politics and sparked healthy debates in the past, but said “his recent outpourings about definitions of rape have left me, frankly, gobsmacked”.
