Lumley Burns her way through field
ACTRESS Joanna Lumley learnt to plough at a farm where Robert Burns lived yesterday.
The Absolutely Fabulous star took part in the Horse Ploughing Match at Ellisland Farm in Dumfries and Galloway.
She opened the event and then watched as ploughmen and teams of Clydesdale horses competed throughout the day. She also took the reins herself, ploughing a furrow with guidance from farmer Neil MacPhail.
Vintage machinery, tractors and ploughs were also on display.
Burns took up the lease of Ellisland Farm in 1788 at the age of 29 and spent three of the most fruitful years of his life there.
The farm is now a museum.
