Luke Mitchell appeal verdict to be televised
LUKE MITCHELL'S appeal against his murder conviction is set to be filmed by the BBC when the result is announced in court on Friday.
Cameras for the BBC will be allowed inside the High Court building in the Lawnmarket when the result is due to be read out at 10am.
Mitchell, now 19, is trying to overturn his conviction for the murder of his girlfriend Jodi Jones in June 2003, when they were both 14-year-old pupils at St David's High School in Dalkeith.
A full appeal, lasting ten days, has already been heard by the court.
The decision to allow cameras inside the court follows the Nat Fraser hearing earlier this month when the BBC filmed his appeal being quashed.
The 49-year-old businessman from Elgin was jailed for life in 2003 after a jury found him guilty of murdering his wife Arlene in April 1998, despite no body ever being found.
The footage will be streamed live on the BBC website while the broadcaster's satellite news channel may also show live coverage.
Lord Hamilton, the Lord Justice General, will sit with Lord Osborne and Lord Kingarth at Mitchell's hearing.
