Lothians swine flu numbers start to drop

THE number of people with suspected swine flu in the Lothians appears to be falling.

Despite a rise nationally, only around 600 people reported to their GP with flu-like symptoms in the past week.

Of those phoning their doctor, it is thought only a small number would have actually had the infection.

It brings the rate of suspected H1N1 in the area to a similar level to the likes of Orkney and Shetland Isles.

Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: "People must do everything they can to protect themselves, maintaining good hygiene practices and taking advantage of the vaccination programme and seeking medical advice where necessary.

"With the vaccination programme now well under way, I urge everyone in the priority groups to get the vaccine when invited to do so by their GP."
