Lockerbie compromise
LAWYERS for the Lockerbie bomber accepted yesterday that there could be a private hearing in his appeal, but voiced misgivings about a lack of detail.
Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, 56, wants access to a classified document as part of his claim to have suffered a miscarriage of justice in being convicted of murdering the 270 victims of the 1988 atrocity. The Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh will have to decide whether a public interest immunity certificate preventing this is justified.
A hearing behind closed doors has been proposed at which an advocate who had been vetted and given security clearance would be appointed to look after Megrahi's interests.
The hearing continues.
