Local Round-up: Hotel hailed for customer service work
The Balmoral Hotel has picked up an award for customer service at the HRS Hotel Excellence Awards.
Winning in the large hotel category, judges described The Balmoral's approach to customer service as highly sustainable, well rounded and consistent.
They said: "The business shows a clear commitment to continuous improvement."
Ivan Artolli, general manager at Rocco Forte, which owns The Balmoral, said: "I would like to offer my congratulations to each member of staff."
Israeli author in church talk
AN Israeli economist and author is to speak at an event in the Capital.
Shir Hever, who wrote The Political Economy of Israel's Occupation, will speak at the Augustine Church on George IV Bridge at 7.30pm on Thursday. The event is open to the public and entry is free.
Health checks begin at 40
EVERY person in the Lothians is to be invited for a free health check on their 40th birthday.
The Scottish Government's Life Begins at 40 scheme is aimed at cracking down on a variety of conditions.
15 million has been pumped into the programme, which was piloted in the Highlands.
Lifeboats quids in after dance
A FUNDRAISING dance collected 500 for the RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat Station.
More than 70 dancers took to the floor to enjoy the music of Jack Stalker and his Scottish Country Dance Band at Queensferry High School.
Sick children left purring by goody giveaway
YOUNGSTERS at the Sick Kids hospital enjoyed goody bags delivered by popular Japanese cat Hello Kitty.
Charity volunteers toured the children's wards dressed as Hello Kitty, Gormiti and Radio Lollipop mascot Lolli.
The goody bag giveaway was organised by hospital radio charity Radio Lollipop, which provides play, comfort and care to sick children during their stays at the hospital, and Sanrio, which owns the Hello Kitty brand and donated the toys as part of its anniversary celebrations.
Band let Jean Genie out of the bottle
A DAVID Bowie tribute act are set to wow audiences at the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh this Saturday.
Ultimate Bowie take to the stage for a show chronicling the star's musical career including hits such as Starman, Let's Dance and China Girl.
Starring Ed Blaney and with an eight-piece accompanying band, the concert runs from 7.30pm until 9.50pm, with tickets costing 15 (13 concessions).
