Local Round-up: Greyhound book races on to shelves

A SMALL charity set up to rehome greyhounds is to have a book published on its activities over the last four years.

Gracehounds' book, Four Years of Greyhound Rehoming, will be published next month.

All money raised will be put back into the charity, which was set up by Lois Sinclair from Lasswade, Midlothian in 2007.

Four Years of Greyhound Rehoming is available for 12.50 by emailing [e-mail].

Mairi tunes up for school gig

Scottish singer and fiddle player Mairi Campbell, whose version of Auld Lang Syne featured in Sex and the City, will perform the song as part of a show St Mary's Primary in Leith today from 7 until 9pm. Proceeds from the performance will go towards a Japan earthquake fund.

Patients gather to give views on blood drug

SCORES of patients on blood-thinning medication have gathered in the city to give their views on the level of care they receive.

Health chiefs wanted to know how people on warfarin found the quality of treatment they got from their GP.

While general feedback was good, some did say they wanted more information about diet and the possibility of herbal medication.

The results of the consultation will be considered when planning future healthcare strategies.

Water walk raises 1300

PUPILS have raised more than 1300 for safe water in schools in Zimbabwe after walking 6km carrying six litres of water in backpacks.

As part of the recent eco week at Wardie Primary School, pupils completed the challenge, which equated to 24 laps of the school's playing fields.

Going wild for zoo plant offer

BUDDING gardeners are being given the chance to take home a plant grown at Edinburgh Zoo.

The gardens team at the zoo is selling off some of the plants that it has grown in the zoo's greenhouses.

The event will take place at the zoo on May 18, from 11am to 3.30pm.

Arts body to host hustings in Capital

VOLUNTARY Arts Scotland (VAS) has organised a hustings tomorrow in the Capital to allow people to find out what the political parties are promising in support of the arts and crafts sector.

VAS's executive officer Fiona Campbell said: "We have organised this to give people the chance to ask questions about the things they love."

The hustings takes place from 5.30-7.30pm at the Fruitmarket Gallery, Market Street.
