Local level call for children's nursing needs
THE nursing needs of children should be decided at local level rather than national, a nurses union has said.
The Edinburgh-based Royal College of Nursing said that, due to geographical inequalities, local knowledge was essential when developing services for young people, rather than having a blanket approach.
Director Theresa Fyffe said: "We believe all children in Scotland should have access to appropriately-skilled nurses in their local communities.
"Following extensive consultation we have developed a vision for community nursing which states that such services in the future should be designed according to local health needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
"This means that the location of children and families health services should be determined at a local level rather than a national level."
