Loan lecturer fails to win back his job
A UNIVERSITY lecturer sacked following claims he asked students for cash loans has lost his unfair dismissal and race discrimination claims.
Dr Mansi El-Mansi, who is Egyptian, was a lecturer in life sciences within Napier University. He denied asking students for loans, claiming he had simply acted as a guarantor for a cash loan from one student to another.
An Edinburgh employment tribunal heard that Dr El-Mansi became the subject of an internal investigation after students reported he had approached them and asked for cash advances.
One student sought an urgent meeting with Dr David Mincher in June 2007 to report that Dr El-Mansi requested a loan of 2,000 to help pay for medical treatment for a colleague's son.
Dr El-Mansi was dismissed for gross misconduct after the university concluded he had sought funds from students.
The tribunal rejected Dr El-Mansi's complaints.
