Livingstone covets Holyrood powers
Ken Livingstone said last night he envied Alex Salmond's powers as First Minister and wanted London to enjoy the same kind of independence from Westminster.
The Labour mayoral candidate told Scotland on Sunday: "Londoners would like to have more of the powers Scotland has. The three great devolution referendums made possible by Labour were Scotland, Wales and London, but Scotland got by far the greatest powers over public services." Livingstone also said that although he had enjoyed working with former First Minister Jack McConnell, the pair had had disagreements. In contrast, he spoke warmly of Salmond, with whom he worked after last summer's terror attacks in London and Glasgow.
"I have always liked Alex Salmond and I hope London and Scotland can work together where we agree or have areas of common ground," he said.
