Liverpool tops UK table for big bosoms
WITH an average bra size of 34E, Liverpudlian women have the biggest busts in the land, according to retailer Debenhams.
The store's survey found that the women of Birmingham have much smaller assets, with an average size of 34A.
The fashion store looked at all of their bra sales between April and October this year to discover the average bust size for different towns.
Newcastle comes a close second, with an average bra size of 34DD, while Manchester takes third place at 36D.
Annette Warburton, Debenhams' Head of Lingerie Buying, said: "The most common size in Liverpool stands at a plentiful 34E, reflected in local busty celebrities, Abby Clancy and Coleen Rooney.
"In London, the average falls to a still impressive 34D. On the small but perfectly formed side of the map is Southampton with an average size of 34B and Birmingham coming in 34A".
Body weight, age and the popularity of breast enhancement surgery in certain cities are some of the reasons for regional diversity, the report said.
It also includes pregnancy, the hormones in the contraceptive pill and even the local water.
According to the study at least 70% of women are still wearing the wrong sized bra.
On Monday Debenhams is launching its Bra Fit campaign, which aims to target these women and educate them in the difference a well-fitting bra can make to their health and appearance.
Annette Warburton added: "To accommodate the regional differences, we
are considering implementing a change to the instore display of our bras.
"We currently bra fit over 250,000 women each year. With the increasing awareness, we believe that we'll see even more dramatic variations in bust size over the coming years.
"The majority of British women still believe themselves to be a 34B."
