Library in 'Scottish literature' rethink

THE world's biggest library has reversed a decision to reclassify work by Scottish authors as a subsection of English literature, it was confirmed yesterday.

The US Library of Congress announced last month that the past 700 years of Scottish literature would no longer have its own section.

However, the National Library of Scotland and the British Library learnt yesterday that the decision had been reversed.

In an e-mail, the Library of Congress said: "After reviewing thoughtful comments received from several correspondents, the Library will be reinstating headings for Scottish literature, Scottish poetry and similar headings."
