Libraries to provide social care information

LIBRARIES across the city are to be given information points in a bid to help adults access more health and social care help.

The council says many people do not know they are entitled to assistance and benefits.

In a bid to improve awareness, the resources have been placed in six Capital libraries and contain 12 leaflets documenting different help programmes.

The city's health and social care leader, Cllr Paul Edie, said: "It's a great idea using libraries to spread the message about the varied services we offer adults when it comes to social care.

"Many people may be unsure who to contact about care home places or what they should do if they think an elderly relative is entitled to free personal care.

"These information points are like a one-stop shop telling people where to go.

"There is a growing need for good quality care and support for people in Edinburgh and we have to ensure everyone knows what benefits and services are available to them."
