Lib Dems to fall behind Greens in poll meltdown
THE Greens could win more seats than the Lib Dems at the Holyrood elections, a new poll claimed today.
The YouGov survey for The Scotsman found Lib Dem support had slumped to just five per cent while the Greens were on six per cent.
The SNP edged ahead of Labour in the constituency vote with 40 per cent to Labour's 39 per cent, though Labour was ahead on the list by 39 to 32 per cent. Translated into seats, the findings would give Labour 57 and the SNP 48 with 13 Tories, six Greens and five Lib Dems. Green leader Patrick Harvie said the Lib Dems' dramatic fall was due to their coalition with the Tories at Westminster.
The Greens were excluded from last night's STV debate between the other four party leaders. Labour's Iain Gray refused to be drawn on whether he would prefer coalition or minority government if Labour was the biggest party. Alex Salmond came under fire for failing to wipe out student debt as promised.
