Lib Dems aim to stamp out post office closures
NEWS that 13 post offices in the capital have been earmarked for closure has sparked a campaign to save the "vital" community services.
Reacting to the list of closures, revealed by the Evening News last week, Liberal Democrats from across Edinburgh met outside Warrender Park sub-post office in Marchmont to launch a city-wide Save Our Post Office Campaign.
Edinburgh South Lib Dem Westminster spokesperson Fred Mackintosh said: "Warrender Park Road is a fantastic post office. It even stays open until 7.30pm on Saturdays for the busy people of Marchmont. This is exactly the sort of business that Royal Mail and this Labour Government should be supporting – not closing down."
Over the next six weeks Liberal Democrat councillors and campaigners plan to let residents know how to object to the plans.
