Lib Dem candidate arrested following prostitution probe

AN ABERDEEN city councillor and Scottish Parliament candidate has been arrested over offences relating to prostitution.

Gordon Leslie will not now stand as the Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Aberdeen Donside in May's Holyrood election.

He was arrested yesterday and has been charged under the Prostitution (Public Places) (Scotland) Act 2007.

The councillor for Bridge of Don is expected to appear in court next month.

A spokesman for the Scottish Liberal Democrats said: "He stood down as a parliamentary candidate with immediate effect this morning."

Mr Leslie, who was born in Aberdeen and lives in the Bridge of Don area, said he would be making no comment.

A spokesman for Grampian Police said: "Grampian Police can confirm that a 64-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal regarding five contraventions of the Prostitution (Public Places) (Scotland) Act 2007.

"He is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on March 3."
